Splitting from its ancestor, cilliosaltus has become a detritivore in the Ninth Salt Lake, living in the mud on the lake bottom and consuming dead organic particles and nutrients. It has lost its jaw and instead simply adsorbs nutrients and particles over its whole body. Like its ancestor, it moves about using cilia and exchanges DNA through conjugation.
