The cave rustcell split from its ancestor, the cave rustmold. Its success has been due to its ability to ward off the parasitic cavedron. It no longer clumps, becoming individual to allow all cells to obtain nutrients from all sides. It has given up its plasmodial reproduction, allowing the current to spread it far and wide. Its iron-sensing organelle has become more advanced and moved to the front, merging with the cell wall to allow it to better find the minerals it needs to live.
