Ancestor:Descendants:

The calmstrum split from its ancestor, the crastrum, and moved to the sunlit areas of the North Polar Jujubee Ocean. To be able to survive in this harsh environment, its photosynthesizing apparatus split into two groups; one which retained the photosynthesizing capability, and one which grew small, fine hairs, with which to capture microscopic cells and feed on them. These filter-feeding "tentacles" are also used to move, since they lost the ability to photosynthesize, while the limbs which retained their photosynthesizing ability are left always above water, to capture as much sunlight as it can.
