Antlered worms making forays into the savanna found themselves short of their preferred food: rotting vegetation. However, their keen senses soon brought them to the carcasses of plents, killed by saucebacks or by natural causes. Their jaws were ill-suited for shredding the tough plent flesh, but their antlers served to shred bits off any carcass they happened to crawl around in. The antlers subsequently evolved to hang lower to the ground and to have sharper barbs as well as split from 2 to 4 antlers. Their all-plent diet was eventually supplemented with the flesh of dead animals such as saucebacks. Now adapted to a different niche, the butcher worms spread back into the forests from which their ancestors had emerged.
