Ancestor:Descendants:

The buoyant feather foi split from its ancestor in the sunlight zone of the Jujubee Ocean. They now live the life of free floaters, drifting through the ocean sifting food. They have improved upon its ancestor's feeding methods. While the feathers may be smaller due to a mutation in the gene pool, its length was no longer needed because the feathers have become so advanced that they took up the slack. The front feathers are stickier to filter out as much microorganisms and other nutritious particles out of the water as possible.

The buoyant feather foi now use gases defused from the water to inflate flaps of its cell membrane, allowing them to float. This lets them preserve energy that would be used in movement. They can control the amount of gases in the flaps using their cell membranes, allowing them to sink and float at will. Although it doesn't seem like it, they are very fast, but they only move when they are in danger. They have also grown powerful eyes to let them detect predators from far away.
