The bubble scuttlecrab has split from its ancestor and has moved into Slarti Swamp. It has changed its diet to become dependant on the swamp bean and swampmeans colonies. To travel across the swamp quickly, the bubble scuttlecrab has evolved a long pair of middle legs that hold its body above to surface which can often look stable when it isn't. But when it isn't moving, it bends down to rest on its front legs. It will also do this to feed.
To feed it uses its larger tusks to break apart the swamp bean colonies before eating them. This decreases the effects of the swampmeans digestive secretions as the are diluted in the water. Despite this the tusks are still worn down over time and once they are gone the bubble scuttlecrabs will not be able to feed. This has shortened their life expectancy.
They still lay snail-like eggs in small burrows in the soft mud of the swamp. They also have bumpy, purple skin for camouflage.
