The bubble flora are an ancient lineage of purple flora, which are named and easily distinguished by their floating, bubble-like reproductive structures. They are broadly divided into bubbleweeds (which are extant) and ignifers (which are extinct).
The ignifers were some of Sagan 4's first giant trees and dominated forest ecosystems until their extinction at the end of the Somanian period. Bubbleweeds, which are mostly aquatic, have mostly lived as seaweeds, though some have colonized the land and grew to great sizes in isolation.
