The boreal trunkpuff split from its ancestor the trunkpuff. It now lives in the boreal region of the mountains. It was already adapted to cold weather and snow so it only had to adapt to less air in the higher altitudes. It trunk i much stronger than before which can support its weight now that its has doubled in size. Since no other trees were in the region before it dominated over the carnoferns and smaller black flora.

It will grow smaller branches on its trunk which still have the black photosynthesizing caps attached. During the winter when its very cold it will produce an anti-freeze like substance on their caps. This melts the snow off so it can absorb the sun all year long. The black color also help keep it warmer in the cold. When its not cloudy or snowing and the temperatures are warmer it will thriver and grow quickly. This is also the time in which they will produce many spores from their 2 spore puffs on the top of the tree. These germinate quickly if in the right conditions. However, if the conditions are not right it can stay dormant until they are.
