Black algae is the most primitive members of the melanophyta kingdom. As simple, independent algae they are extinct, having been wiped out by a combination of cellulosebanes and disease, however some live on as symbiotes in a variety of other organisms, and they have living multicellular descendants in the form of various black flora.
