The ashkalatongrass split from its ancestor, the phoenix grass, and grew smaller. Its spore chamber now closes and opens according to the level of the water. If the water is too low, the chamber will close and if the levels rise it opens. This helps it retain energy when there's little water, and make survivability for the spores easier.
