Ancestor:Descendants:

Due to competition from other organisms, the ruberarian were pushed out of their niche into uncharted territory. They are now amphibious, eating creatures that are found on the beaches. In order to survive out of the water, they have developed a pouch over their gills that is covered in mucus, preventing them from drying. They hunt by burying their sensory tentacles in the sand, waiting for a large animal to roam by. When one does, these spring out of the water, clamping down with their massive jaws. Since sand does not transfer vibration well, they have to stay close to the shore. Their tentacles have tripled the number of nerve endings. As soon as they catch their prey they have to quickly return to the water.

As an apex predator, they usually wait for their prey to get close to the water's edge before striking, using its great strength to drag the animal back into the water. Most prey animals are killed by the great jaw pressure of the amphibarian, although some fauna may be incidentally drowned. It is an immensely powerful animal, having the strength to drag a fully grown crested king limbless into the sea, or crush a helmethead uksip skull between their jaws. It could not completely replace its ancestor due to them having different diets.
