Ancestor:Descendants:

The ambush nailfin split from its ancestor, the coastal nailfin and emigrated north to the Detoxic wetlands where there were no predators to compete for food which was plentiful. They have evolved several new adaptations for this environment and their new hunting technique. One such adaptation is that their head is now reformed to make sure one eye is always above the water when the ambush nailfin drifts downstream looking for food, the other is that their butt-nostril is formed to resemble a sunstalk which the wallahopper feed on. A third new adaptation is a thick gristle-ish fin on their tail to help propel themselves through the murky water. The fourth and last adaptation is that its skin is a lot thicker and has, at some places, even grown thick plates made from the same material as their nails to protect themselves from any pray that tries to defend itself. They crawl through the swamp, using their fins to drag their large body through the swamp and hide in a suitable pond to wait for a potential prey when they don't patrol the river for food. They reproduce in the same way their ancestors do.
