The acuo has developed its nervous system quite a lot. It now has common reflexes that help it avoid injury or death. Notably, when a so-called "butt-worm" enters and obstructs the airway, it immediately does the equivalent of sneezing, effectively removing the worm. It also has learned not to go near bubble trees. Also, their eyes are getting better; they can now vaguely distinguish shapes in the world around them. They developed a primitive "wooden" skeleton to support its weight.
